Nutrition

The Longfellow registered dietitians educate and support individuals of all ages to develop balanced and sensible eating habits, promoting a healthy body weight and a positive relationship with food. This is science-based nutrition that supports a healthy and holistic lifestyle. Our coaching is a partnership with you. Together we develop your food plan. It’s realistic, enjoyable & includes your favorite foods.  This approach is not a “quick fix” diet. It’s a long-term approach to making behavioral changes and to shift the thinking process behind these behaviors.

  • We offer education & guidance for specific medical nutrition issues including (but not limited to); diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, weight loss, inflammation, and GI issues (irritable bowel, gluten allergies, etc.)
  • We provide both individual and group sessions. Follow up visits are powerful and important because we can get feedback from you on the positive changes and the challenges. Then we can adjust your eating plan accordingly.
  • We make nutrition FUN – something you want to do, not something you have to do!
  • Health Insurance coverage is possible in most cases.

Individual Counseling - Adult and Youth

Our Longfellow dietitians will see you for a one-hour initial consultation to develop a plan that will help to achieve your specific goals. They will also schedule time for consistent follow-up sessions that work best with your schedule. Morning, afternoon, evening times are available for individual sessions.

Group Sessions

Longfellow provides a premier group program for weight loss and improved health. We are seeing phenomenal results! Participants have lost a range of 10-25 pounds with decreased cholesterol, blood sugar, and blood pressure. In addition, they are experiencing the benefits of more energy, better moods, and increased self-confidence. They have expanded their exercise routine and developed consistency with their habits. New sessions begin three times a year in January, May, and September.

The program includes:

  • Two private nutrition sessions.
  • For new participants; two comprehensive fitness assessments with a fitness professional.
  • For new participants; one personal training demonstration session.
  • 12-weekly group nutrition meetings that include a process to help create new ways of thinking and lasting habits.
  • The group includes full use of the Longfellow Club. We encourage the participants to try a variety of exercise classes throughout the program.

Nutrition Consultations

We know that nutrition is an important part of any successful fitness plan. Please check if your health plan covers nutritional counseling. Longfellow is committed to supporting you in living a life of optimal health that includes daily attention to exercise and good nutrition. Please contact Nutrition Director, Jane Polley, to schedule your nutrition consultation.
