The Longfellow Clubs are a locally owned and independent business committed to the health and well being of our community, and provides extraordinary fitness, tennis, recreational and educational programs for all people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities. Longfellow opened for business in September of 1972. In 1980 Laury Hammel and Myke Farricker purchased the Longfellow Racquet Club and built the largest tennis program in New England.

In 1985, Longfellow purchased The Longfellow Tennis Club, and by 2001, between both clubs 17 indoor courts become available for members.

We are now called the Longfellow Clubs, and we are a recognized leader in innovative business practices, social responsibility, and community service.

We offer a variety of singles and doubles clinics, traveling leagues, as well as in house leagues. Cardio tennis, ball machine clinics, lessons, and team practices are all also available here at LTC.

Membership & Guest Fees

The Longfellow Clubs offer a wide variety of memberships, including tennis only and a combination tennis and fitness. A non-member may use the club up to 4 times in a calendar year with a guest fee. Up to 4 guest fee’s may be applied to a membership if within a year of use. Please email the club at or call (508)653-4606 for additional information.

Competitive Leagues

If you are looking for competitive leagues, these options may be for you.

DBH: (Dorothy Bruno Hills) is a weekday daytime traveling women’s doubles only league. Competing against other local teams. Its practices oneither Mondays or Tuesdays depending upon your level. Match days are either Wednesdays or Thursdays beginning at 9:00am. The season begins October and runs thru March. Teams are chosen through a tryout process. Tryouts are conducted in early September. Call the club for more information if interested.

3 – 3.0 – 3.5
4 – 2.5 – 3.0

CMITA: ( Central Mass. Indoor Assoc.) is a weekend traveling league that holds its practices during a weeknight, and has its matches on Saturdays. Matches are played against other local teams. Women begin at noon, while the men’s league begins at 3pm. Singles as well as doubles are played in this league. This season begins September and runs thru April.Spring League: is a weekday daytime traveling Women’s only league whose season runs from mid-May through June. Matches are played against other local clubs. Practices are offered for this league as well.

B – 3.5
C – 2.5 – 3.0
USTA: Is a summer traveling league that offers both singles and doubles match play. Matches are played weeknights which one is dependent on your level. The season runs from mid-May through July. Some distance in traveling may be required if your team makes playoffs then districts.

Singles Flex League: is offered to men and women from an advanced beginner level to the advanced level. This is an in house league. Players are grouped with players of the same level. The format is a round robin style. You schedule your own matches, making it “flexible.” There are 3 sessions of flex league beginning in the fall.
Club Champions: is a singles tournament style format. Club Champions is for men and women of a variety of levels. Club Champions is an In house league, and is offered only in the Spring. Brackets will be set up for the players who will play a back draw if eliminated.

NTRP Level 1.5-2.0 New to tennis~never played.
NTRP Level 2.5 Beginner. Can rally a bit.
NTRP Level 3.0 Advanced Beginner. Beginning to play competitive tennis.
NTRP Level 3.5 Plays in competitive leagues and teams.
NTRP Level 4.0 Plays competitive recreational as well as league tennis.
NTRP Level 4.5-5.0 Very high level of play. Tournament as well as league tennis are played.

Cardio Tennis

Cardio tennis is an aerobic energy filled clinic. Cardio Tennis is fast paced drilling and movement/footwork to music. No tennis experience is necessary in order to participate. Cardio tennis is becoming one of the most rapidly growing clinics at LTC.

Clinics

We have a variety of clinics designed for all levels. We offer Men’s and Women’s clinics, during the day, night and on weekends.
Beginner Clinic: All basic stroke production will be taught. Drills constructed for teaching forehands, backhands, volleys, and the serve will be given. Scoring and court positioning will also be introduced.
Advanced Beginner Clinic: Drills working on stroke mechanics will be covered. Forehands, backhands, volleys, and the serve will be worked on. Some doubles strategy will be covered. Intermediate Drill and Play Clinic: This clinic emphasizes doubles tennis. Drills are created to work on point play. Players will work on tactics in doubles as well as strategy. Advanced Intermediate Clinic: A clinic working on doubles tactics and strategy, with drills designed around match play.
Advanced Drill & Play Clinic: This clinic is based around tactics and stategy, with drills con-structed around match play, and point play.
Singles Clinic: A clinic where the drills are designed to teach the fundamentals of singles play. Court positioning, point construction, tactics and singles strategy will be taught.


 

Parties/Special Events

Looking to host a party or event? The Longfellow Tennis Club is the perfect place to hold birthday or anniversary parties, a New Year’s Eve bash or a party designed by you! Depending on your specific needs, rent part or all of the club.
LTC also offers a variety of special events throughout the year. Have you ever wanted to play doubles with a pro as your partner? Try attending a pro-am, a fun-filled evening with entry fee’s going directly to a variety of charities.

Private/Small Group Lessons

The Longfellow Tennis Club has certified USPTA/PTR professionals who are always available for private, semi-private or small group instructions, based on your individual schedule.

Ball Machines

The Longfellow Tennis Club offers top quality ball machines to help you improve all aspects of your tennis game. Our Playmate Slam and Ace ball machines are the best in the industry. The Slam machine is also equipped with a lift allowing it to serve to you with a variety of spins and up to 120mph.
Enhance your Playmate Ball Machines experience the LIKE MY DRILL APP. This app allows you to wirelessly control the ball machine and create your own custom drills through your iPhone® or iPad®. LIKE MY DRILLS APP is available on the App Store.
Ball machines can be rented by the hour, or become a member of our Ball Machine Club. You can schedule your ball machine rental through the front desk at (508)653-4606.

Contract Times

For those wishing to reserve a court for a specific day and time for the 37 week indoor season, purchasing a contract time may be the option for you. LTC offers a number of contract court times that may be purchased by members on an annual basis.

Early Bird/Night Owl

Like to play early in the morning or later at night? LTC has an option for you! Pay a flat fee which is good for unlimited play all 7 days of the week between open and 9:00am and 9:00pm-close. Court reservations may be made 7 days in advance for a maximum of 1.5 hours per day. During Early Bird/Night Owl hours, members may bring guests for the regular daily guest fee plus their portion of court time. Regular members who are not Early Birds will also be charged for their portion of the court rental.
