The Longfellow Health Clubs were founded by Laury and Myke with the express purpose of making a difference and meeting the health and recreation needs of our community. Longfellow endeavors to partner and collaborate with like-minded nonprofit community organizations, and we regularly make in-kind and cash contributions to local community organizations.
On a consistent basis, the staff and members of our health clubs in Natick and Wayland help to raise thousands of dollars annually for local and community nonprofit organizations through the use of our facilities and our programs. Categories of contributions to local nonprofit agencies include:
Cash Donations
In-Kind Donations (goods and services)
Fundraising Events
Practical Support (collection of goods)
As a pioneer in several sustainable business practices, Longfellow has made the following changes:
Sustainable Business Network
Longfellow has developed a justifiable reputation as the greenest health club in the United States. Longfellow founder, Laury Hammel, also founded the Sustainable Business Network of Massachusetts (SBN) in 1988 (SBNMass.org).
The mission of SBN is to build a strong economy that is local, green, and fair. SBN offers a wide variety of programs that are ably explained on its web site SBNMass.org.
SBN manages the Sustainable Business Leader Program (SBLP) that supports local businesses in becoming more environmentally sustainable and reducing their carbon footprint. Longfellow was the first graduate of the SBLP that has grown to include over 100 certified local businesses.
