Protective Layer Policy

All children under the age of 4, even if they are potty trained, are required to wear the snug protective layers shown above when using the pool.

  • Snug fitting protective layers will need to pass the two-finger test. If two fingers can fit under the elastic in the legs and waist, the layer is too large.
  • Students who have a repeated accident in the pool may be required to wear special protective layers, such as adult sized rubber pants, regardless of age.
  • If a child under the age of 4 is found not properly layered, they will be asked to leave the pool and return once the appropriate attire is worn.

Group Swim Classes

  • Longfellow offers swimming lessons using the American Red Cross swim curriculum for every age and skill level. We have preschool programs for ages 6 months through 5 years. Infants and toddlers will learn to adjust to the water and accomplish basic skills. For ages 5 years and up we have our youth programs which focus on basic to advanced water skills including classes to prepare swimmers for the swim team and fitness swimming. Adults can also take private or semi-private lessons to learn to swim or improve their technique.
